Keratosis Pilaris: How to get rid of Strawberry Skin

Keratosis Pilaris (You probably know this as "Strawberry Skin" or "Chicken Skin"... thank you TikTok!) is a skin condition that is very easy to explain. It is caused by plugs of dead skin cells clogged in your hair follicles.

For some people, it shows up as a few flesh-colored bumps. Others have noticeable bumps that look like small pimples, or a rash. This condition can come and go depending on external factors such as weather, and internal factors like hormones.

Although this condition cannot exactly be cured (it can go away on its own, or come and go) , there are several things you can try to get rid of it when it shows on your skin.

HOW CAN I PREVENT STRAWBERRY SKIN?

Before we get to solutions, let’s talk about prevention tips:

  • Take shorter showers and baths (20 minutes or less) -Use warm water instead of hot water when bathing.
  • Use a mild cleanser when bathing (avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry your skin).
  • Avoid self-tanners (they tend to make bumps more obvious)
  • If you shave or wax, do so cautiously, as it can cause more bumps.

HOW CAN I TREAT STRAWBERRY SKIN?

The following three step at-home treatment for keratosis pilaris has been suggested by Dr. Wat, a renowed dermatologist from New York:

  1. Gently exfoliate: The goal here is to remove dead skin cells from your body’s surface. A loofah or rough exfoliating glove or washcloth will work. But don’t rub your skin to harsh since this can irritate your skin further and worsen the condition.
  2. Apply a keratolytic product: Also known as a chemical exfoliator. These products remove built up from the skin. You should look for the following ingredients:

    -Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)

    -Glycolic Acid

    -Lactic Acid

    -Retinoids

    -Salicylic Acid

    -Urea

  3. Apply a good amount of moisturizer: Keratolytic products may dry your skin, so moisturizer is an important step. Apply the moisturizer right after bathing and re-apply throughout the day (at least two or three times per day)

BE PATIENT!

“People often expect treatments to work immediately, making the bumps or redness disappear. Good results come with consistency and patience” explained Dr. Wat. Although this can be lengthy and irritating, using a great combination of products specially made for Keratosis Pilaris you can rest assured that the bumps will disappear in no time.

NÈLLA Skin Care creates formulations that can effectively get rid of the bumps and irritation on your skin. Featuring a blend of natural ingredients including Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Lactic Acid, you can get rid of Keratosis Pilaris with Natural Ingredients.

Start with NÈLLA Skin Care Magic Body Scrub. Damp your skin and proceed to grab a small amount to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells. Massage onto your skin in circular motions and let sit on your skin for at least 2 minutes so the formula penetrates your skin. Rinse off with warm water.

Finish off with NÈLLA Skin Care Perfector Serum and massage onto the area you just exfoliated in circular motions until the formula is completely absorbed. There is no need to rinse off. It is better to let the formula acting the whole day and reapply after a few hours (use twice per day).
