Intimate Skincare: How to do a Vajacial at Home
Have you ever heard about the term ‘Vajacial’? I remember stumbling upon a post that mentioned this some years ago and it instantly sparkled my curiosity. You see, I am OBSESSED with skincare, I enjoy looking for homemade face masks with fruits, vegetables, milk, honey, yogurt, you name it… I’ve tried it all. However, my main focus has always been facial care. Back then I didn’t even know skincare for ‘down there’ was a thing. I couldn’t believe I was, in a way, neglecting self-care for my intimate area. After years of extensive research, asking my dermatologist, and conversations with my closest friends, I was able to gather enough information to know how to properly take care of my privates and give myself a proper vajacial in the comfort of my own home.
Here are some of the things that will help you take care of your intimate areas:
- Everything starts from the inside out. Proper hydration is key to having beautiful, flawless skin. Make sure you drink at least 12 cups of water per day (or 2.7 liters). This will not only keep you energized and aid with gut health, but it will keep your skin plump and flush out toxins, as well as aiding to keep your body with a balanced PH. Additionally to this, make sure to include a lot of fruits and veggies (making smoothies will make this easier! And yummy) in your diet.
- Apple cider vinegar (ACV) baths at least once a month. ACV is a powerful antimicrobial that helps ease infections and soothe irritation. As a mild acid, it helps to keep or restore your natural bodily PH balance. Eliminates bad odors and prevents UTIs (Urinary tract infections). To prepare an apple cider vinegar bath: Fill a tub with warm (not hot) water. Add 2 cups of raw apple cider vinegar. Stir the water. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Turn on the shower and cleanse as usual.
- Your clothing matters. Tight pants or underwear can cause irritation and lack of breathability for your lady parts. For example, moisture can be more prevalent around your feminine areas if your tight clothing is preventing air flow, which can contribute to developing infections, and that isn’t fun. For this same reason you should opt for wearing cotton underwear, since it is less likely to cause irritation and the fabric is more breathable.

Here are the steps to do your own vajacial at home:
- Cleansing! As if it wasn’t obvious, cleanse your intimate areas every day. Make sure to avoid using soaps with too much fragrance or harsh chemicals as this can throw off your natural PH balance. Remember your vagina has its own amazing self-cleansing system, there is no need to add extra things, so avoid getting soap inside you. Carefully rub the area around your vulva and rinse with warm water.
- Exfoliate. Using a gentle exfoliator will prevent those annoying ingrown hairs and it will keep your skin soft and with a baby feel. (Pro tip: NELLA whitening body scrub will not only do aforementioned benefits, but it will also keep your skin tone even and clarify hyperpigmentation *wink* ) Remember to only exfoliate around your vulva!
- Hair removal. While this is completely optional since hair in your intimate area has benefits (Is naturally there for a reason, duh), opting for a proper hair removal option is key to keeping your skin looking great. Waxing is ideal since it slows down hair growth and weakens follicles, making hair grow thinner each time; however, I understand if you’re not ready for this yet. To achieve that same smooth effect while shaving make sure to use a shaving cream and a 5 blade razor for a closer shave. Using Aloe Vera afterwards will help ease down any irritation and hydrate your skin for a softer feel.
- Use tweezers to remove ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs happen from time to time, no matter how hard you try to avoid them. You can always use tweezers to try and remove them. ( If the ingrown hair turns into a big bump, please visit a dermatologist to help you remove it.)
- Use a mask. For a brightening and calming effect, you can mix 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt (make sure it has no additives), add a ¼ slice of orange pulp and 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera. Let sit for 5 minutes and wash off with warm water.
- To finish off you can use NELLA skin whitening serum around your vulva to keep your skin looking lifted, tight, and keep an even skin tone. This is the only serum designed to rejuvenate your intimate skin and combat hyperpigmentation.
As you can see, a vajacial is equivalent to a facial, only that it’s done on your vulva. This beauty routine is essential for getting rid of ingrown hairs, unclogging pores, hydrating your skin and evening out your skin tone. Look, I get it. Maybe you’re not sure on treating your yoni to a vajacial. But these tips don’t have to be strictly for your intimate area; this works for any area you wax or shave! A once a month treat to your armpits or legs could help you on your journey to achieving flawless skin. Skin is skin after all, and skin needs love.
So how do you feel about the idea of a vajacial? Ridiculous or need it now?
